OUR INITIATIVES

Industry Marketing & Events
These are vital to maintaining the Cayman Islands share of the world tourist market and increasing the number of visitors to our shores. Our work in this area includes:

Marketing & Promotions
Working with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CI DoT) on various marketing programs, such as, strategic marketing plans, re-branding the Cayman Islands product and co-op advertising programmes for the dive and accommodation sectors. CITA works with the CI DoT to support the yearly summer promotion, which started in 2001, Summer Splash and the Cayman Islands Free Fallin that allows members to offer compelling deals for tourists that are branded and promoted through all of DoT's marketing channels.

Exposure & Business Development
The CITA holds the only travel trade show Cayman Islands Tourism Exchange (formerly known as Marketplace), bringing buyers (wholesalers) and sellers (typically accommodation & tour providers) and Travel Media together. CITA promotes the Island and it's offerings to these influential travel trade partners. Visit www.cite.ky for more information.

Familiarization Trips
The CITA also holds ScubaBowl, the world’s largest dive familiarization trip, which provides up to 150 delegates who qualify as retailers of scuba dive travel, the opportunity to immerse themselves into the complete Cayman Islands experience.

Annual CITA Events
• Taste of Cayman, Food & Wine Festival, a culinary showcase and community event that supports CITA and local charities

• International Underwater Film Festival in conjunction with the Scuba Diving Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Each year in January CITA hosts the Underwater Film Festival and Silent Auction. This past year CITA added the local underwater photo competition which proved to be a huge success and allowed our local talent to be showcased and recognized. • DEMA Trade Show that showcases CITA watersports members and allows representation for the destination at this Dive Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) trade show which occurs each year in Orlando or Las Vegas.

Media Relations & Tourism Promotion
CITA continually submits press releases and shares information to members and media partners to drive awareness to our tourism industry and our members. We believe that the more our association and tourism issues are discussed the more the community and are leaders will be supportive of our businesses and realize the importance of our industry in our economy.

Community Events & Services
These provide the industry with an outlet to give back to the local community through fundraisers as well as encourage tourism awareness and industry promotion to the community. Such events and services include:

Fundraising for the “special needs” Lighthouse School an Annual Christmas party where students receive gifts from Santa.

Funds also go towards lunches for the residents of Pines Retirement Home, donations to Sunrise Adult Training Center and the provision of scholarships to persons pursuing a career in tourism.

CITA has been working closely with the Department of Tourism to achieve this along with the development of a Welcome Centre at Royal Watler Cruise Terminal.

Industry Advocacy
Includes government, industry and media relations. We believe that given the tremendous impact of the tourism industry on the lives of Caymanian people, it is our obligation to actively lobby the relevant agencies and institutions to ensure that the concerns of the tourism sector are at the forefront of their decision making processes. In this way we hope to contribute to moulding the Cayman Islands political, environmental and social climate in a way which positively fosters the tourism sector and continues to contribute to the advancement and development of our society. Our efforts include:

• Influencing CI Policies: Making submissions and attending discussion sessions on policies and laws that affect the business of tourism; eg, immigration policies, liquor duties, hotel licensing fees, trade and business licensing and labour policies.

• Industry Representation: on governmental licensing and regulation boards affecting the business of tourism, including the Liquor Licensing Board, Hotel Licensing Board, Immigration Boards & Task Forces, Trade and Business Licensing Board and the Marine Conservation Board.

• Communication & Advocacy: The CITA Board of Directors meets regularly with the Minister of Tourism to go over concerns and developments within the tourism industry.

• Recommendations and Involvement: with, marine conservation, minimum wage proposals, liquor control board issues, Immigration, Department of Employment Relations and Industry policies and infrastructure developments for cruise and airlift.

• Public Relations: Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with media partners. As a result, the CITA is the recognized tourism association and is regularly consulted by the media on tourism issues. Additionally, CITA press releases and events receive excellent TV, radio and newspaper coverage.
