2012 Underwater Photo Competition Results are In!

CITA's 2012 Underwater Photo Competition Results are In!

The poor judges! For five hours, the toiled over an amazing 299 photos that were submitted from around the world in CITA's 2012 Underwater Photo Competition to select the top images. Thanks to Cathy Church, Patrick Weir and Elly Wray, the difficult task of selecting the best photos from all submissions (while ensuring that the rules of the competition were adhered to) resulted in a very successful 'reveal' of the winning entries at the 8th Annual International Underwater Film Festival on Thursday, November 8, 2012. (Click here to see all the winning photos.)

There were five categories that photos could be submitted: Cayman Wrecks, Turtles, Critters/Macro, Scenic and Creative. Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category; in addition, judges awarded Honorable Mention certificates to deserving photos in each category. All photos had to be taken in Cayman waters, and with the exception of the 'Creative' category, photo editing was NOT allowed. Once all places were decided, the judges selected a 'Best in Show' photo. Here are the prizes:

1st place in each category:

  • Photo printed on canvas (16x20) by Cathy Church's Photo Centre
  • $250 Camana Bay gift card
  • 30L Keg of White Tip Lager from the Cayman Islands Brewery

2nd place in each category
